Eonni this is specifically for you....lol <3 <3
In order to understand this movie, you'd have to be kinda psychotic on some level or better have some crazy festering in you lol because this movie is all over the place with sexually explicit scene that i don't mind and crazy hallucinogenic scenes that make you question what it is you are actually watching.
The synopsis of the movie is:
A suicidal, pot-smoking photographer with schizophrenic episodes, a sex addicted plastic surgeon with a bad conscience and a secretive financer with legal trouble. These three childhood friends come together to relate common memories, future ambitions and share their deepest secrets. "Searching for the Elephant" is a raw, innovative film that portrays the decadent lives of the successful metropolitan in a cynical world. Materialistic dreams and mental anguishes collide as the lives of the three confused friends, and the women surrounding them, spirals out of control. This film is a stylistic psychological study. The gritty story is portrayed with creative images, disjointed cuts and a slick, stylistic camera works and aesthetics. Creating a beautiful contrast to the dark, disturbing story unfolding.[wikipedia]
To me and my crazy eyes, this movie basically shows you the lives of the three main characters but through the workings of their minds if this makes sense. They all have some sort of twisted minds and the director shows us things as they see it. If they are hallucinating, or zoning out like normal people do we get to experience all that through the eyes of the character.
It is about three friends and how they deal with the issues between them. Each of them has their own set of problems ranging from schizophrenia to an addiction to sex to betrayal and infidelity but at the end of the day they are friends....somewhat.
Su-Yeon (Min Jung) is the sister of Hyun Woo (Jang Hyuk) and she is married to Min Suk and she has an affair with Jun Hyuk (Sang Woo) and all three men are friends. Her husband is a sex addict and will sleep with anything and his wife eventually plans to leave him for the friend.
Hyun Woo is schizophrenic and smokes pot at the same time so his trips are just ridiculous. He falls in love with a woman at a psychiatric hospital and he thinks she's a real doctor but she isn't. She's a nut case too and is actually wanted for fraud and some other crimes i can't recall at the moment. At one point she clains to be going to a spaceship and is supposed to return to her planet and she runs off into the bushes and we didn't hear from her again ...lol. Until the end where she pops back up while Hyun Woo's sitting on a bench in a park and she shows up with a doctor's coat on saying she missed him.
Everyone finds out about the affair but while they are all confronting each other, the manager of one of Min Suk's ex-lovers who killed herself shows up to seek revenge and before you know it there's a scuffle. The manager gets knocked unconscious and Jun Hyuk somehow falls on a knife and is killed.
While Hyun Woo and Min Suk go to get rid of the body of the now dead manager, they have the body of Jun Hyuk in the car but when they return the care and the body are gone. Straight up vanished. Turns out Su Yeon got pregnant from her affair and decided to keep the baby and stay with her husband.
In the end i enjoyed the movie. It was wacky, trippy, sad and dramatic and the actors did a good job of conveying the madness each character felt and experienced.
